BRIC Ltd was sponsored by the South West of England Regional Development Agency to develop a unique project called the broadbandshow.
Financed from the DTI Broadband Fund, this new initiative has been created to show small and medium-sized enterprises how broadband applications can transform businesses and open up access to new markets, through advanced working practices. The project reveals the business benefits of broadband by developing interactive demonstrations of broadband applications and content.
Not only do we demonstrate how applications such as video conferencing or shared networking environments work, but more importantly, why. Our aim is to give companies in the South West a head-start developing and using broadband to create better business practices.
To help build these demonstrations, the broadbandshow created a £500,000 fund to commission companies across the South West to produce and showcase broadband content and applications relevant for small businesses in the aerospace and tourism sectors.
These showcase demonstrations formed the backbone of a series of roadshows, hosted across the region, which began in Bristol, in December 2002 and have continuted throughout 2003. The roadshows give companies in the aerospace and tourism sectors hands-on access to broadband applications, backed up with practical help and mentoring to assess the potential for their businesses.
